Shogawa's "Hikimono-kiji" is a Japanese wood processing technique that uses horizontal wooden poles to extract the most beautiful grain from the wood to a finished product. With this technique, the Lemnos Miki has the wooden vessels running parallel to the clock frame showcasing the various rings of the tree, giving each piece its own original expression of the wood's history.

Japanese lacquer, or Urushi (漆), is a transformative and highly prized material that has been refined for over thousands of years, often used in Japan on decorative objects for the privileged class and the deities.

The Lemnos Miki Urushi, specifically, is made with Japanese lacquer carried out using a technique called “mehajiki,” which enhances the beauty of the wood grain. Using the same Japanese Zelkova, sourced from Japan's domestic intra-trade market for constructions of shrines and temples, the Miki Urushi is coated additionally with lustrous and moist-touch lacquer from Ishikawa prefecture, a lacquer-producing region of Japan.
